Why should I sell on eBay as opposed to just having a garage sale?

eBay gives your item(s) national and international exposure. You’ll benefit from millions of registered bidders worldwide (currently more than 58,000,000) and this number grows each and every week. With a garage sale, you are limited to a set price and your audience is limited to whoever might be in the neighborhood. Our neighborhood has tens of millions of interested buyers and you never know who those special buyers might be... but we’ll find them!

What types of items do well on eBay?

Almost anything can fetch a great price if two or more bidders are very interested in it. The following items typically do very well on eBay: Antiques, Art Objects, Collectibles, Designer Clothes and Furs, Electronics, Jewelry, Musical Instruments and Recordings, Sports Cards and Memorabilia, Vehicles, and many more!

Why do I have to sign a contract?

A consignment agreement must be completed and signed before we list your items. This is for our mutual protection and prevents any misunderstandings.

Why do you take possession of the item?

Due to the fact eBay holds the Trading Assistant responsible for any and all auctions listed; all items must be in our possession prior to us placing the listing. This is also so we may verify each item’s description and answer any questions potential buyers may ask, and allows us to ship the item in a timely manner upon the auction’s completion.

Who determines the opening bid price?

Consignor can determine the minimum price each auction starts at. Tip: Keep in mind that you want people to start the bidding. Probably one of the biggest drawbacks a seller can make is listing an item at too high an opening bid. This discourages potential bidders from tracking the auction or placing a bid, and they move on to a similar item. This being said however, do not choose a starting price for less than you are willing to accept for the item in case it only receives on bid.

How long does the auction run?

Auctions run for 7 days unless otherwise specified by the consignor. eBay offers 3 day, 5 day, and 10 day options. eBay charges extra for the 10 day option only.

Who pays for shipping and boxing materials?

Winning bidder pays for shipping, insurance, and delivery confirmation. Disc-n-data is responsible for providing all packaging materials.

How do I get paid if my item sells?

Upon successful completion of an auction and the buyer’s satisfied acceptance of the item, we will forward you a check for the amount of the item, minus any relevant fees and commissions. If you have multiple items listed with us, we will send you a check once a month.

What happens if my item doesn’t sell?

If your item does not sell, we will relist your item for free. If your item does not sell the second time, you will be notified. At that time, you have option of relisting with a lowered minimum bid price, having the item returned to you, or donating to charity.

What if the high bidder doesn’t pay for my item?

Payment from the buyer is required within 10 days from auction end. If high bidder does not pay within this time frame, item will be offered to the second highest bidder. If there wasn’t a second bidder (or the second bidder declines) the item will be relisted at no additional cost to consignor.
